  On 7 May 2014, CPA Australia and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further develop the relationship between the two bodies.
 
  The term of this MOU is valid until the day 31 January 2016 and it will be revisited for possible renewal near the end of the term, and is available to MIA members who have served the profession for more than 10 years in a senior capacity.
 
  By taking up the CPA Program, MIA members will receive recognition as an Associate member of CPA Australia and the opportunity to attain full membership status by completing three examination papers.
 
  Pathway to membership
  The following steps demonstrate the pathway for MIA members to gain Associate membership of CPA Australia.
 
  Step 1: Determine eligibility
  CPA Australia accepts membership applications from around the globe. If you are a full member of the MIA, you may be eligible for Associate (ASA) membership of CPA Australia if you:
  Are a member in good standing with MIA with at least 10 years continuous membership.
 
  Hold a university degree recognised by the Australian Education International – National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) as being at least equivalent to Australian bachelor degree level. This will be determined during the assessment of your application.
 
  Currently working in a senior level position in the organisation (at the time application)
 
  Step 2: Complete application
  The following documents must be submitted with your application:
 
  Assessment and membership fee
  Certified true copies of 100 points of identification (see application form for points values)
  Certified true copies of academic award and transcripts
  Certified true copies of change of name documentation (if applicable)
  Official workplace testimonial from current employer, detailing the job title, length of employment, duties and responsibilities
  Provide a detailed curriculum vitae
 
  An original, or certified copy of a letter of good standing from MIA that contains:
        The date you joined MIA
  The date you achieved your current member status
  The date your membership fees are paid until
  Are a member in good standing with at least 10 years continuous membership
  confirmation you are not under any disciplinary sanctions or investigations and have not been subject to any disciplinary sanctions in the past five years
 
  Step 3: Submit application
  Send your application with certified true copies of your documents to ma.comms@cpaaustralia.com.au or mail them to:

  Australia
 
  Alternatively, you can mail your application to your nearest CPA Australia office.
 
  Step 4: Processing of application
  Your application will take approximately 10 to 15 working days to process. If there are any queries about your application, a CPA Australia employee will contact you.
 
  If your application is successful, an email will be sent to you informing you of your success. A welcome pack will follow by post.
 
  If your application is unsuccessful, an email will be sent to you outlining the reasons why. We will provide advice about how you can meet CPA Australia's membership requirements.
 
  Step 5: Advance to CPA status
  Once you become an Associate member of CPA Australia via the MOU, you must enrol into the CPA Program professional level and complete the following segments:
 
  Ethics and Governance
  Financial Reporting
  Global Strategy and Leadership
 
  The CPA Program is a distance learning program and after successfully registering for an exam paper, you will be sent the study materials. Further study supports are made available online.
 
  Upon successful completion of the three segments, you will be advanced to CPA status. You will receive a CPA certificate and will then be eligible to use the CPA qualification.
