The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
CGAs can obtain a course exemption to Part IV of the four-part exam of the CIA program. The CGA designation is equivalent to the CIA admission requirement of a Bachelor’s degree. Please note: Membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors is open to all CGAs even if you do not hold the CIA designation.

  Designation
The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) grants the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation. The CIA designation represents competence in the principles and practices of internal auditing and is the only internationally accepted designation for internal auditors. The Institute of Internal Auditors was established in 1941. It serves more than 80,000 members from over 100 countries in the areas of internal auditing, governance and internal control, IT audit, education, and security.

  Requirements
Successful completion of the CIA exams and two years approved practical experience are required. CIA candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Work experience does not substitute for an appropriate degree.
