高顿网校小编为您分享ACA新闻资讯(转自ICAEW协会官网): ICAEW teams up with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to teach teenagers personal finance
With deadline day for football transfers now over, it’s not just football finances in the frame. Accountancy body, ICAEW, has been working with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to teach young people from Haringey, aged between 12 and 16, about money management as part of Imagine IF, a programme encouraging local teenagers to develop new skills and drive economic and community cohesion.
Throughout the summer months, young people got involved in learning about being more streetwise on issues like personal data, passwords and money management in workshops delivered by ICAEW and the Fraud Advisory Panel.
Many talked about their experience of nuisance calls and cold-call attempts to get them to buy goods over the phone as part of discussions of everyday scenarios.
Imagine IF encourages new relationships between people who don’t normally work and spend time together. This summer, the focus was on building relationships between Haringey teenagers and the business community.
It aims to promote social change and economic development in Haringey by encouraging young people to develop new ways of thinking.
Philippa Kelly, a volunteer from ICAEW, worked with young people on how to manage money and deal with day-to-day financial decisions. She said: “We were really impressed with their creative ideas and logic that they applied to unfamiliar situations. Their enthusiasm was really infectious and their willingness to discuss finances shows they are able to take a practical approach to managing their own money now and in the future.”
Ros Wright who led a session on fraud as a member of the independent Fraud Advisory Panel, said:
"We were a little hesitant in bringing up the ‘fraud’ word, thinking it might be a little sophisticated for their age group – but it wasn’t at all. They understood the concept of deception. I was delighted that everybody participated and readily rushed forward to take part in acting out a couple of scenarios."
Nikki Kelly, Employment and Skills Manager at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation said:
"We are thrilled that ICAEW supported our week-long activities for young people in Haringey.  At Tottenham Hotspur Foundation we are committed to creating life-changing opportunities for the local community, with a focus on providing sustainable employment and education pathways. Understanding finance and money management is incredibly important and something that will help our young people on their journey to independence.”
