When the tails of a distribution are thicker than that of a normal distribution, we say that the distribution is leptokurtic. Platykurtic means that the tails are thinner than normal. The size of the tails is not indicative of a distribution’s symmetry. Rather, the presence of skewness indicates that the distribution is not symmetrical. |
