Stores Control safeguards the materials and supplies until they are needed for production. They do not maintain inventory records or initiate purchase requisitions.
The Inventory Control Department maintains perpetual inventory records for all manufacturing materials and supplies. Therefore, it would be in a position to know when supplies are getting low and would be responsible for initiating a purchase requisition.
The Production Department manufactures the goods, obtaining its materials from the Stores Control Department. It does not initiate requests for purchases.
The Purchasing Department places orders, but they do not initiate them. Orders are initiated and authorized by others.
